Harvard Main Street offers FREE facade renovation design services for downtown building and business owners.  It can be for something as simple as color choice to full facade renovation schemes and drawings or sign design.

The city of Harvard is currently offering five-year, no-interest facade loans for up to $50,000 to downtown building owners. Loans are subject to standard lending criteria. Contact the city of Harvard at 815.943.6468 for more information.

Historic Preservation Information

The entire downtown district falls into the city of Harvard's Historic Preservation District. This means that downtown building and business owners need to get a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) from the Historic Preservation Commission before they can get a building permit. The application for the COA is available at Harvard City Hall. The commission meets monthly to review the applications.

 The Historic Preservation Ordinance is vital to the property values of downtown buildings.  By preventing facade renovations and new construction that is not compatible with the existing buildings, it protects the entire downtown's value.

Coupon Pages

Harvard Main Street periodically makes coupon pages to hand out at events and throughout town.  Any downtown business is eligible to offer a coupon or special on these pages.  Spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis.  There is no cost to participate.  To have a coupon or advertise a special, please contact our office at 815.943.3431 or info@harvardmainstreet.com.
